GIM Institute welcomes 2017 with Marie Sklodowska Curie quote: Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less. We are sure that 2017 will be another great year. What does it hold for the world of innovations?
It seems that 2017 will be a year where we tend to value our time as never before: stores may follow the example of Amazon and introduce sales-points without any queues, while Rinspeed Oasis will dominate the market with self-driving cars that can be your office or home. No more wasting time in traffic jams or waiting for public transportation.
Need of humanity is going to be met with the other trend, which is around Virtual and Augmented Realities and 3D Printing. Augmented Reality with 7D Holograms may replace Zoos. Augmented Reality is taking a step forward in education, particularly in anatomy. 3D Printing Technology will enable patients having problems swallowing to have visually tempting food that melts already in the mouth. These are only a few expected innovations for 2017.

Augmented Reality in Anatomy. 3D4Medical
3D4Medical created "Project Esper" to change the way we study anatomy. Now students can explore every angle of over 6,500 body structures in 3D. Further more, students can visualize the body’s internal workings like never before; action of a muscle can be seen through animation.
Biometric Identification. Apple
Apple has already started the process allowing customers to unlock iPhone with thumbprint, but by the end of 2017, it is expected for biometric identification to take hold in other areas. We're not too far off from having a thumbprint scanner at Starbucks, linking to your gold card account. Apple believes that biometrics improve the privacy.
Connected Home. Google
In year 2017 we should expect a big step forward to connected home: connected door locks, lights, security cameras, thermostats, etc. Google have partnered with multiple companies, such as Nest, SmartThings, Philips Hue, and IFTTT to voice-enable lights, switches, and thermostats. You can control individual devices, rooms, or your whole house.
High Power Wireless Charging. Korea Advanced Institute
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology claims that wireless charging can also be done a distance away. The team recently demonstrated a prototype of a new Dipole Coil Resonant System (DCRS) that can wirelessly power devices up to 15 feet away. The DCRS system achieves this using a magnetic field, and is apparently powerful enough to charge up to 40 mobile phones, and can even power larger devices, like a TV.
Humanized Big Data
Big data’s greatest strength—its quantitative, numerical foundation—is also a weakness. In 2017 should be a year, when people will see advancements to humanize big data, seeking more empathetic and qualitative bits of data and projecting it in a more visualized, accessible way. It will ease up the processes of managing big mass quantities of gathered data that can help us in everything from planning better medical treatments to executing better marketing campaigns.
No lines. No Checkout. Amazon
Excellent User/Consumer experience is one of the key trends in 2017. Amazon introduced physical store that sells a mix of groceries and ready-made meals. The key differentiator is that it doesn't have checkout lines. customers check in at the entrance of the store with a new app called Amazon Go, then grab whatever items are needed. Amazon claims it can track the items automatically through a combination of computer vision and deep learning technologies. When customer is done shopping, they just walk out. This new comfortable way of shopping might get introduced in the other shops as well.
Office on wheels. Rinspeed Oasis Self-Driving Car
Self-driving and electric cars are making one more step into the future: Oasis self-driving car is designed to be office or home on wheels. The design Rinspeed Oasis proposing serves to mimic the vibe of a modern-day family room. The car can include features such as a TV, a windshield that can provide full multimedia immersion, and augmented reality displays.
Original Global Snacks in a Box. Universal Yums!
Universal Yums team of two diligently put together the box – representative of the flavors typically eaten by locals in the country. The choices are based on research on each country extensively; each box has detailed information card with facts about the country and each snack.
ZOO as 7D Hologram. Dubai Mall
7D hologram tech is moving forward at a great speed and already entertaining crowds all around the world with some amazing digital displays. This technology could mean an end to Zoos and captive animals.
3D Printed Food. Biozoon
German company, Biozoon, is harnessing the power of 3D printing to create seneoPro, a range of 3D-printable powder mixtures that solidifies when printed but also very quickly melts when eaten. The main target for this new 3D-printable food are elderly patients who suffer from dysphagia, or the inability to swallow. Such a technology would definitely reduce the risk of choking, and the 3D-printed nature of seneoPro means that caregivers and family members can very easily mix and match the powders to create all types of dishes. And you can also add coloring agents and texturizers to make the food even more appealing.

We can see it, we can hear it, we can smell it. Christmas is all around us. That is the most wonderful time of the year for many, when friends and families can bond, share quality time together and exchange gifts.

Enlightening experience is one of the ways to define education. In the other words, education is the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.
The fascinating thing about innovation and education is that innovation is often aspired by education, while education up to this day has never been excessively impacted by innovation. Throughout the years the main principle of education remained the same: the ones with more experience and accomplishments share their knowledge with a group who aim to obtain the information.
Within past years technology has become a part of global educational system. However, it doesn’t mean that the next wave of education will be dependent solely on technology innovation. Future education will come from deeply engaging with people and empowering them to make learning all their own. It may lead to the end of universities; already today learning and education are often separated. Learning is about gaining skills, whilst education about gaining credentials and creating the network. Future higher education should embrace all: learning valuable skills, networking with smart people or obtaining a recognized credential.
